Hello Band Families!

It’s that time of year again! Please consider volunteering to be a mentor family to help welcome our new band students this year. To help make their transition a smooth one, I would love to have your support as a mentor band family. Acting as a mentor family is very simple and takes just a little time. We will match you up with a new student (one that plays the same instrument as your child if at all possible) and their family. You then reach out to them via email or phone call. The rest is up to you and can be as involved as meeting for coffee, frozen yogurt, or dinner … or simply connecting in whatever way is comfortable to you. The most important thing is establishing an open line of communication so they can come to you with questions..

It was so reassuring to have an experienced mentor band family to turn to when we first arrived at Athens many summers ago. Those first few months as part of the Athens band family can be a little overwhelming and a time when you need a lot of questions answered or maybe just a bit of reassurance that everything will work out just fine and that the crazy schedule really is manageable (and worth every minute!).

My goal is to match up families as soon as possible so you have time to make a connection well ahead of pre-camp or band camp. If you know an incoming family you’d like to be matched up with, please let me know in your email. Also, please let me know how many students you would be interested in mentoring.
