IMPORTANT: Winter/Spring Marching Band Roster and Introduction Letter

WE DID IT!!!  We’ve met our membership goal and I’m excited to announce that we are going to move ahead and make our Winter/Spring Marching Band a reality!

Please read this entire document.

FIRST order of business:  Please look over the attached roster and let me know if any edits need to be made IMMEDIATELY!  We will be sending these numbers to our drill designer within a few days so that he can chart our show.

SECONDLY, we will begin rehearsals the first week of February:

-The woodwinds and brass (known as “the winds”) will rehearse on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00pm.  We will make every attempt to rehearse OUTSIDE; please dress accordingly.  Please wear athletic-type clothing including socks and tennis shoes.  Jeans are permitted provided that you can move comfortably/athletically in them.  I find that wearing something that covers my ears really helps cutting out the cold, whether it be a toboggan or earmuff.  Also, I am going to request that everyone wear a mask as much as reasonably possible when we are outside and not playing.  Although it is not explicitly “required” according to WCPSS athletic policy (which we are told to adhere to), I think it would be a good idea.  Many of you will be able to do marching drill in masks with no problems because the weather is not too warm.

-The percussion will definitely rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00-5:00pm.  We will let you know about Wednesday as John is booked at another school.

-The guard will definitely rehearse on Thursday afternoon from 3-5pm with the percussion and winds; however, the other times/days will be forwarded to you ASAP once Mason decides what would work best with her schedule (she has a “day job.”)

-We will NOT rehearse Tuesday, February 16th as it is a teacher workday, and I will be out of town.  We will also NOT rehearse during Spring Break.

-We will plan to perform for the 3 home football games:  March 19th, April 2nd, and April 8th.  Please note that April 2nd is during Spring Break; if we have too many students out, we will only perform “in the stands.”

-We will plan to perform a “Finale Show” for our family and friends sometime after the April 8th performance so that you can see us LIVE!  We will set a date for this ASAP.

THIRDLY, I want to meet with our seniors/section leaders this Thursday, from 3-4:30 at the school.  There are plenty of things to discuss and I want to make sure that we are all on the same page.  We will meet OUTSIDE if the weather is reasonable.  I must tell you that right now they are calling for very cold conditions on Thursday, so in that case we may meet in the cafeteria (spreading safely apart).  Please come to the band room entrance where I will give you a health screening.

IF WAKE COUNTY DECIDES TO CANCEL AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ON THURSDAY DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A WINTER MIX, LET’S PLAN TO MEET FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL.

LASTLY, if you need to pick up an instrument, the best time to do so would be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursdays from either 9-11am, 12-1pm, or 2-3pm.  You will need to come to the front entrance of the school and be health checked by our staff.  You can also wait until we formally start marching rehearsals on February 2 and we’ll get you an instrument then.

GET EXCITED!  GET LIT!!  THE BAND IS GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!

I can’t wait to see all of you again☺

-Doc
