Today (Friday, Dec. 11th) is the last day that you can submit a request to audition for our East-Central District Honor Band. The cost for the audition is $10 and will be deducted from your band account. Interested students must EMAIL DOC at jmarkoch@wcpss.net
You will have a 48 hour “window” to make a recording of your audition, between noon on January 6 to noon on January 8. You will receive the “sight reading piece” and the solo excerpts at noon on January 6. The sight-reading piece will not be a strictly-sight-reading piece but a “short-amount-of-preparation-piece.”
I will provide you with more instructions as we draw closer to the audition.
If you win a chair in the band, you will be asked to make another recording (to a click track/metronome) later in January. The recordings will be compiled into a “performance.”
As stated previously, due to the many amendments needed to be made to this entire event, I am neither encouraging nor discouraging it. It will be very different from the usual audition and clinic; and there may be more subjective issues due to recording quality, etc. However, the process of preparing for an audition–even a recorded one–can be very valuable. As in many things in life, it is the journey that matters!
