October 11, 2018
Dear marching band student and parent,
Our band has been asked to march in a “Military Appreciation Parade” at the State Fair next Wednesday morning, October 17. We received “official approval” for this event through Mr. Mares and I hope that we can take as many students in our marching band as possible.
We will follow the schedule listed below:
N.C. STATE FAIR MILITARY APPRECIATION PARADE
Oct. 17, 2018; 11:00am
9:15am Students excused from 2nd period class; change into uniform/load
9:45am Depart Athens Drive (via 3 activity busses and box truck)
10:00am Arrive State Fairgrounds
10:30am Line-up and warm-up.
11:00am Parade Performance
Noon Depart Fairgrounds
12:15pm Arrive Athens Drive; unload; eat lunch
12:50pm Students report to 4th period
The students will be wearing FULL UNIFORM for this parade and ALL MARCHING STUDENTS are invited to participate (including front ensemble carrying cymbals, banners, etc.). I will be contacting the faculty early next week concerning this absence. As stated above, all students are excused. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING A LUNCH as there will not be sufficient time for older students to drive off-campus when we return. ALL STUDENTS MUST REPORT TO 4th PERIOD CLASS!
I will allow class band students to make up work from other teachers in band classes next week—please be honest about the time you need. Most students find that with a little planning, it is not too difficult to make up work.
This is a very special opportunity for our band and Athens Drive Community to GIVE BACK to the men and women who protect our freedoms. Also, the State Fair has been a loyal sponsor of our band program for years; we are the closest high school to the fair; and our parents spend quite a bit of time and raise a significant amount of revenue parking cars for this annual celebration of our State’s resources.
Let’s pray for great weather and a great parade!
