Dear Athens Drive Band family,
It’s beginning to look a lot like TUBACHRISTMAS!!!
Yes, you read that correctly… TUBACHRISTMAS has been around for 50 years and is a concert of holiday favorites presented by tubas and euphoniums. Concerts are currently held in over 300 cities in the United States and even a few foreign countries. It’s time for our students to take part in this awesome holiday tradition.
The Research Triangle TUBACHRISTMAS will be held Sunday, Dec. 17th at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex. Here’s the schedule that we will follow:
12:30pm Meet at Athens Drive to load instruments
12:45pm Depart Athens Drive for St. Andrews
1:15pm Arrive St. Andrews
2:00pm Rehearsal Begins
5:00pm Concert Ends
5:30pm Arrive back to Athens
This event is open to ALL tuba, euphonium (baritone) and trombone players (although it is “cooler” to play euphonium for this event—but we’ll still take you?). Our band boosters will pay your $10.00 registration fee and pay for several of the “books” that we will be using. All you need is to show up and play! Dress is holiday fun or wear your ADHS band gear. The concert is FREE and open to the public!
If you would just like to meet us with your instrument at St. Andrews at 1:15pm, that is fine. Also, if you would like to just leave after the performance with your family, that is fine as well.
Fun fact: I played in many, many TUBACHRISTMAS’ when I was in college in Ohio. The Akron, Ohio TUBACHRISTMAS regularly has over 400 participants! Imagine 400 tubas and euphoniums honking out such favorites as “Joy to the World” and “O Christmas Tree.” It brings tears of joy to my eyes just thinking about it! I will be attending the Akron TUBACHRISTMAS this year on Saturday, December 23rd—the first time that I have attended for over 30 years and I will get to see my tuba teacher! I am excited!!
