Dear Athens Drive Band family,
Something NEW–for us anyway! It’s TUBACHRISTMAS!!!
Yes, you read that correctly… TUBACHRISTMAS has been around for 49 years and is a concert of holiday favorites presented by tubas and euphoniums. Concerts are currently held in over 300 cities in the United States and even a few foreign countries. It’s time for our students to take part in this awesome holiday tradition.
The Research Triangle TUBACHRISTMAS will be held Sunday, Dec. 18th at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex. Here’s the schedule that we will follow:
Meet at Athens Drive to load instruments 12:30pm
Depart Athens Drive for St. Andrews 12:45pm
Arrive St. Andrews 1:15pm
Rehearsal Begins 2:00pm
Performance 4:00pm
Concert Ends 5:00pm
Arrive back to Athens 5:30pm
This event is open to ALL tuba and euphonium (baritone) players. Our band boosters will pay your $10.00 registration fee and pay for several of the “books” that we will be using. All you need is to show up and play! Dress is holiday fun!! If in doubt, wear your ADHS band gear. The concert is FREE and open to the public!
Fun fact: I played in many, many TUBACHRISTMAS’ when I was in college in Ohio. The Akron, Ohio TUBACHRISTMAS regularly has over 400 participants! Imagine 400 tubas and euphoniums honking out such favorites as “Joy to the World” and “O Christmas Tree.” It brings tears of joy to my eyes just thinking about it! I have all the buttons from those years, plus a TUBACHRISTMAS scarf and toboggan hat. I will be playing and will be wearing my TUBACHRISTMAS swag😊. Let’s go!
