Update on Jim Merchant

We would like to update you regarding our dear friend and fellow alumni parent, Jim Merchant (Kristen ‘10 & Logan ‘15). Melissa & Jim have been gracious hosts for most of our alumni parent holiday gatherings.

Jim had an ankle and talus bone replacement November 13. After Christmas, the joints became infected. The infection eventually resulted in removal of his ankle and talus bones in March. In June, a 12” rod was installed through the heel of his foot with an 20” bolted attachment (affectionately called, “Gizmo”) on the outside of his leg. On Father’s Day, Jim suffered a stroke which has affected his speech and right side of his mouth. He is currently in speech therapy which seems to be helping. Then again in late July, Jim suffered another stroke. The second stroke has affected the first 3 fingers on his right hand and is requiring OT. Gizmo was finally removed last week! Jim and Melissa’s kids are doing a great job supporting them with meals and errands.

The family has asked for prayers, calls, cards or messages to help keep Jim’s spirit up. Please refer to Yahoo! e-mail for Jim’s address & cell number. Jim is also on Facebook and has Facebook messenger. If you have time, please send some positive energy Jim’s way.

Thank you,
Your ADHS Band Alumni Committee
