Dear Athens Band Family,
In recent weeks, you may have been overwhelmed with multiple emails regarding the need to fill fundraising spots at our State Fair Parking, PNC & NCFC. Many of you may be wondering why it is so important to get these spots filled. We thought it would be beneficial to take a brief look at why our fundraisers are so necessary. The income generated by our fundraising efforts benefits both our individual student accounts and the Band’s General Fund. Fundraising income credited to our General Fund helps keep the fees for our programs from constantly increasing. These fundraisers benefit every single member of the Athens Drive Band Program. Following is a brief overview of our budgeted General Fund income from fundraisers for the 2018/2019 school year:
BBQ = $8,400 (Fall and Spring)
Coupon Books = $2,500 (August/September)
State Fair Parking = $20,000 (October)
Fruit and Nut Sale = $21,000 (October – December)
Mattress Sale = $3,500 (November)
Store Programs (HT VIC, BJ’s, Target) = $1,500 (Ongoing)
Grand Total to General Fund = $56,900 (with an additional $22,400 going to student’s individual accounts)
Without the General Fund income from these fundraisers, there are two possible outcomes:
· Program Fees would increase substantially (probably in the range of $200 – $300 per student).
· Drastic cuts would have to be made across the entire Athens Drive Band Program.
We all love our band program. We all want to keep our band program operating at its current level of excellence. It is so important to keep our program affordable and accessible to all. In order to achieve these goals, we all need to actively participate in our band’s fundraising efforts.“Be a Sport!” Volunteer!
With these facts in mind, please consider consistently participating in our fundraisers (see the list above for the time of year each is active). Our most immediate need is to support State Fair Parking. There are still approximately 40 open spots that must be filled; there is a dire need for volunteers for opening night (October 11). If these spots aren’t filled, it can actually cost the band money. Freshman parents…this would be an amazing time for you to step up! This would enable the parents of the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble to attend the Fall Chamber Concert.
To those who have already signed up for multiple shifts – Thank You! If you haven’t yet signed up, please join us! If each family worked two spots at State Fair Parking, all of our shifts would be (more than) covered and we would be well on our way to achieving the goals outlined above. You can sign up to work State Fair parking by clicking “Volunteer Signups” on www.athensdriveband.com. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact the chairs at email@example.com.
I love this band program and what it has meant to my family. It truly is a school within a school…a safe haven. It makes me feel good knowing that I am helping to make a difference in the lives of all of our children. If you haven’t yet taken steps to get involved with this incredible experience, I hope you will join me. Get off the bench and “Be a Sport!”
Thank you for your commitment to helping our band step confidently forward toward continued success. With your help, the potential is unlimited. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
