Hayes School of Music Scholarship

 

 

06-11-14 Jay Dineen (Snare) has been awarded a Hayes School of Music Scholarship at Appalachian State University. Jay will be attending ASU in the fall and plans to major in Music Education. Congratulations to Jay on his outstanding achievement!

Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship

 

 

05-25-14 Rachel Stidham (Flute) has been awarded a Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship for Music to Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA. She will be attending Lynchburg College in the fall and majoring in Instrumental Music Education. Congratulations to Rachel on her outstanding achievement!

International Tuba Award

 

 

05-25-14 Matt Baker (Tuba) earned 3rd Place in the International Tuba Competition for musicians ages 19 and under. The competition was part of the 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC 2014) hosted by Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music from May 17 through May 24 and highlights the world’s most talented tuba and euphonium musicians. Sponsored by the International Tuba Euphonium Association, the event is dedicated to tuba and euphonium players around the world. Congratulations to Matt on this outstanding international achievement!

All-State Honors Bands

04-25-14 Matt Baker (Tuba), Caitlin Cassidy (French Horn), and Emma Vtipil (French Horn) were selected by audition to participate in the NC Bandmasters 2014 All-State Honors Bands. To be given an opportunity to compete for All-State selection, a student must first compete for a position in the All-District Honors Band and be selected for a top chair position. All three students earned top positions at All-District auditions and proceeded to All-State. The NC All-State Honors Band Clinics are scheduled for May 2nd – 4th at UNC-Chapel Hill. Concert will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday, May 4th, at Memorial Hall on the UNC campus in Chapel Hill.

UNC-G Honor Band

 

 

01-22-14 Joshua Scarborough (Clarinet) earned the 1st chair clarinet position in the UNC-G 9-10 Honor Band for the 25th Annual Carolina Band Festival at UNC-Greensboro February 13-15. Over 325 applications were received from a five-state area. Concert for both the 9-10 and 11-12 Honor Bands will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 15th, at Aycock Auditorium on the UNC-G campus in Greensboro.

All-District Honor Bands

01-21-14 Through audition, 12 Athens Drive HS Band students earned positions with the 2014 All-District Honor Bands. Marc Bennet (Trombone) and Leah Jamison (Oboe) earned positions in the 11-12 Wind Ensemble. Matt Baker (Tuba), Caitlin Cassidy (French Horn), Sterling Goodwin (Percussion), Joshua Scarborough (Clarinet), Jack Timothy (Baritone) and Emma Vtipil (French Horn) earned positions in the 9-10 Wind Ensemble. Matt Burroughs (Trumpet), Dallin Despain (Baritone), Evan Johnson (Clarinet) and Amith Mandavilli (Percussion) earned positions in the 9-12 Symphonic Band. Leah Jamison (Oboe), Marc Bennett (Trombone), Josh Scarborough (Clarinet), Caitlin Cassidy (French Horn), Matt Baker (Tuba) and Emma Vtipil (French Horn) also qualified to audition for the All-State Honors Bands. The All-District Honors Bands will convene at Sanderson High School in Raleigh January 31-February 1, 2014.

Triangle Youth Brass Band

11-15-13 Matthew Baker (Tuba), Marc Bennett (Trombone) and Matt Wakeford (Trumpet) have earned positions with the 2013-2014 Triangle Youth Brass Band. The Triangle Youth Brass Band’s mission is to provide high quality musical performance opportunities for talented young musicians. Concert dates are February 9, March 22 and May 11, 2014. Concerts are held at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.

U.S. Army All-American Marching Band

 

 

11-13-13 Jay Dineen (Bass) and Aaron Kerr (Snare) have been awarded positions in the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band which will perform in San Antonio, TX on January 4, 2014. This elite group of 125 of the finest musicians from across the nation will perform at the halftime show of the “U.S. Army All-American Bowl”.

“Music for All” Honor Band of America

 

 

11-10-13 Josh Scarborough (Clarinet) has been selected, by DVD audition, to participate in the 2014 Music for All Honor Band of America, part of the Music for All National Festival, occurring in Indianapolis March 5-8, 2014. Music for All presents a life-changing honor ensemble experience for the nation’s outstanding high school concert band, orchestra and jazz musicians. As part of the Music for All Festival, students perform on a national stage and experience world-class learning and performance opportunities with distinguished conductors, artists and master teachers.

Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble

09-09-13 Desirae Emanuel Luke (Baritone Saxophone) and Josh Scarborough (Piano) have earned positions in the 2013-2014 Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble. The Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble is one of two jazz ensembles sponsored by the Philharmonic Association. Fall concert dates are November 10 at Cary Arts Center Theatre, December 13 at Chavis Park Community Center and May 18, 2014 at NC History Museum.

09-09-13 Alyssa Quackenbush (Oboe) has earned a position in the 2013-2014 Triangle Youth Orchestra. The Triangle Youth Orchestra is an intermediate orchestra ensemble sponsored by the Philharmonic Association. Concert dates are November 26 and April 29, 2014. Concerts are held at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.

09-09-13 Emma Vtipil (Horn) has earned a position in the 2013-2014 Triangle Youth Symphony. The Triangle Youth Symphony is an advanced ensemble sponsored by the Philharmonic Association. Concert dates are November 26 and April 29, 2014. Concerts are held at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.

Triangle Youth Philharmonic

09-09-13 Matthew Baker (Tuba), Leah Jamison (Oboe), Joshua Scarborough (Clarinet) and Matthew Wakeford (Trumpet) have earned positions in the 2013-2014 Triangle Youth Philharmonic. The Triangle Youth Philharmonic is the most advanced ensemble sponsored by the Philharmonic Association. Concert dates are November 24, December 6 (Edenton Street Methodist Church), December 15, and April 27, 2014. Unless otherwise noted, concerts are held at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. Congratulations to these fine musicians!

NAME All-National Honor Ensemble

07-30-13 Joshua Scarborough, clarinet, was selected by audition to participate in the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) All-National Honor Ensemble which represents the top-performing high school musicians in the United States. In October 2013, the ensemble will perform in Nashville, Tennessee. To be eligible for an audition, students must have been accepted to their state’s 2012-2013 All-State Honors Band. Congratulations to Josh on this outstanding achievement!
