Chamber Concert

Dear Athens Drive Band students and parents,

We would like to invite everyone in our band program to attend our Chamber Music Concert next Thursday, April 24 beginning at 7:00pm in the auditorium. All of our Wind Ensemble students will be performing, along with select students from our Symphonic and Concert Bands. We have many wonderful groups/soloists performing and will conclude the concert with our entire Wind Ensemble. Students in the Symphonic/Concert Band who are not performing are highly encouraged to attend.

Chamber Music–music for a soloist or small number of players (appropriate to be performed in a small room or “chamber”), has been around for ages. In fact, there is much more chamber music in print, heard and performed than music for larger ensembles (bands, orchestras). Playing chamber music is a proven way to improve musicianship as the parts are not “doubled,” demanding that each student is held accountable for a separate part and must “really know their stuff” to make the piece work. There is usually no conductor, so each student is responsible to maintaining tempo by playing with a steady pulse and critically listening. It takes courage to play in a small ensemble; however, once the students engage in this activity, performing in a large group is much easier!

Just a few more details:

You will love the VARIETY of music performed.
Students who are performing will be instructed to dress “nicely.” They do not need to wear their formalwear (unless they want to).
Refreshments will be served following the concert, at approximately 8:30pm (or sooner).
Thank you for all your continued support and we look forward to seeing many of you on the 24th.
